For those of you who are in the industry, I've just spent the past six weeks helping out at Starz (formerly DKP) finishing up rough layout on the feature film "9". I worked with veteran layout guys Rob Elliott and Rob Sadler. Here's Rob Elliott looking more and more like his father every day!Having never met Rob Sadler's father, I can't say the same thing......but I bet he does! Anyway, I wasn't able to get photos of Brian Foster, our supervisor and "super genius" when it comes to all things Maya and animation related in general. These guys are all excellent to work with and I've learned a lot from them!
Another guy who was on the crew was Armen Melkonian, who used to work at Dreamworks. I didn't get a photo of him, but he snapped this photo of me with my camera when I wasn't paying attention. Jennifer Mackie and he were discussing digital cameras, so I showed them mine. Jennifer is a young girl from Scotland who was also on the crew and she really knows her stuff !
We were really down to the crunch, because there were last minute story changes and whole sequences that hadn't gotten through storyboarding yet....which of course are vital to laying out a film. Our department was SUPPOSED to be finished May 30th, but it took two more weeks to reach our goal.
After it was over and we were waiting for approval on the final sequences......I quickly modelled (out of primitive polygons) this little scene of what I felt I was in need of. As you can see, I'm not a modeller, but I can do some basic stuff. Okay....maybe sub-basic. I even animated the bottle pouring and then the olive jumping into the glass...............okay.........so I was tired.
